Jasmine Sushi and Thai, as the name implies, is a sushi and Thai restaurant that is quaint and under new ownership and new management. It is located across the Florida International University Maidique Campus, perfect for a lunch break for the hungry college student or dinner for the sushi and Thai lovers. With new management comes a new and inventive menu with creative delicious rolls.
For starters, I ordered the Miami Heat Roll ($9.95). This inside out roll, like the Miami Heat, has its own big three of fish: tuna, escolar and salmon, all wrapped with asparagus, scallion, massago, and cream cheese. The combination of the fresh fish as well as the cream cheese is my ideal roll, definitely a winner!
The Best Tempura Roll Ever ($13.95) was just that, one of the best tempura rolls I’ve ever had. Yellow fin tuna and blue crab fried with their special mustard sauce was a delight. The mustard sauce had a slight kick to it, just enough to excite the taste buds.
But by far my favorite roll was the Macadamia Snapper Roll ($11.95), fried snapper with mango and pineapple with a sweet mango sauce freshly made in house. Who would’ve thought the blend of the fruit with fried fish in a roll would be so good?
Ending the night with tempura ice cream ($5.95) always leaves a smile on my face. A heaping scoop of vanilla ice cream smothered in tempura batter and deep fried is the perfect combination of a hot and cold dessert.
Overall, Jasmine Sushi and Thai is a great restaurant and I am very eager to try out the other creative rolls they have to offer. Service was excellent as the staff were quick, friendly, and attentive. Plus if you are an FIU student, you get 10% when you dine in, so it is a perfect place to get great food on a budget.
